Applications are now available for College of Education Tuition Waivers for the Winter 2010 trimester.
The deadline for filing applications is 5:00 pm on Monday, November 16, 2009.
Pick up an application form Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm in the College of Education Dean’s Office (Room G256). Or click here to download a form.
Eligibility criteria:
- Must be admitted to a CE program and be registered for at least 6 credit hours by Nov 16, 2009
- Must have cumulative GPA >= 3.00
- Must complete a Tuition Waiver application form
- Must submit two letters of recommendation from faculty or staff from GSU or your previous institution
- Must submit all application materials by 5pm on Nov 11, 2009
Tuition Waiver award recipients are selected by a panel made up of administrators and/or faculty members within the College of Education.
Tuition Waiver recipients are asked to provide five hours each week for collaboration on a project with a COE faculty mentor.
Undergraduate and graduate tuition waivers are available for a maximum of two trimesters. Graduate Minority Tuition Waivers are available for a maximum of four trimesters. As Tuition Waivers are not automatically renewed, an additional application will be required for each trimester.
Undergraduate Tuition Waiver conditions: 6 – 12 enrolled credit hours.
Graduate Tuition Waiver conditions: 6 – 9 enrolled credit hours.
Minority Graduate Tuition Waiver conditions: 6 – 9 enrolled credit hours.
Note: All Tuition Waivers cover in-state tuition rates only and do not cover activity fees.

The College of Education has added an additional MAPP testing session for the Fall 2009 term. The MAPP examination is required for all students in the following programs:
- BA Early Childhood Education
- BA Elementary Education
- BA English with Teacher Education
- BA Mathematics with Teacher Education
- BS Biology with Teacher Education
- BS Chemistry with Teacher Education
Candidates who did not sit for the MAPP exam in October can click here to pre-register for the added Nov 13, 2009 session. The test will be administered on that date in Room D34160 from 8:30 AM until 12:30 PM.
If you have questions about the MAPP exam and how it fits into your plan of study, please contact your advisor.

Mandatory application meetings for Fall 2010 student teachers will be held on the following days and times:
* Monday, November 16, 2009 at 9am in room D34150
* Monday, November 16, 2009 at 3pm in room G-227
* Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 9am in room G-227
* Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 3pm in room D34150
The meetings will last about 45 minutes. You MUST attend one of these meetings before filling out an application for placement in student teaching for the Fall 2010 trimester.

The first SEA meeting will take place on Wed., October 5th in D1496 from 3:30 to 4:30. We will have Halloween ideas that you will be able to use in your classroom and Sara Acton will also present a hands-on math lesson. Bring your questions and concerns. The officers will be there to answer your questions and talk about your concerns.

The Student Education Association (SEA) of GSU is sponsoring the second annual SEA Wii Bowling Competition, on October 8, from noon to 7 p.m., in the Cafeteria Annex. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place competitors. Popcorn is for everyone. Entry fees are $2 for students, and $3 for everyone else.

Registration opens today, April 13, 2009, for a supplemental ICTS test administration to be held on July 11, 2009. Registration can be completed only on the Internet for this test administration. Please visit http://www.icts.nesinc.com for further information, including available test fields and test areas.
Multiple-choice only content-area tests will be offered at eight Illinois test sites.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Basic Skills Computer-based Testing
The ICTS Basic Skills test is now offered on computer in addition to the regularly scheduled paper-based administrations. Basic Skills computer-based testing (CBT) is available during select five or six-day testing windows at Pearson Professional Centers.
There are Pearson Professional Centers in the following Illinois locations:
* Chicago (Financial District)
* Chicago (La Salle) (March 2009 only)
* Chicago (Wacker Drive)
* Marion
* Peoria
* Schaumburg (Chicago NW)
* Springfield
There are also additional Pearson Professional Centers in neighboring states, including the following locations:
* Evansville, IN
* Terre Haute, IN
* Merrillville, IN
* St. Louis, MO (2 centers)
* Davenport, IA
* Kenosha, WI
Refer to the Pearson VUE Web site at http://www.pearsonvue.com/icts for up-to-date information about test centers, including test center addresses and locations of over 200 test centers in the United States.
For the remainder of the 2008-2009 program year, CBT testing windows for Basic Skills will occur as follows (excluding Sundays):
